Big Brother website and CMS

As a result of the protracted acquisition of (50% of) Victoria Real by Endemol, Big Brother came the way of the production team at VR during the early part of 2000.

The process of creating the site was complex, involving many stakeholders (Endemol and Channel4 primarily) and third-party suppliers (Intel Online Service and BT being key). The website was one of the very first in the UK to feature streamed media - and it came from the first Big Brother house - and it needed a CMS to keep the content fresh and up to date with happenings in the house.

At the time, I was working in the Product Development group at VR, and answered a call for help from the website producer Mark Baynes. I initiated a massively high pressure, no-margin-for error technical exercise to create a CMS from scratch for this huge and hugely important project.

Long nights, fraught days, recalcitrant suppliers and some truly brilliant technical work from my team meant we got there - just!
